Use Case

BIOTEC is a company that wants to take agriculture to a higher level optimizing recusars and in the most economical way, so we focus on cutting-edge biotechnological techniques such as the technique of cultivating plant tissues, with the variant used artisanal culture media, which is why it is considered cheaper. The tissue culture technique is an alternative that helps increase agricultural production, in El Salvador this is the main problem that can not be overcome by the entire population, therefore vegetables, basic grains, etc. are imported. BIOTEC wants to give solution to this problem.

Potential

The main problem in the world is the low agricultural production, since agriculture is the first stage in the food chain, without a good production the food demand is never sold by the year 2050, BIOTEC uses biotechnological techniques as in the case of Cultivation of plant tissues, with the variant that uses artisanal media, a base of products that can be obtained from the kitchen, conventional tissue culture technology uses chemical means for the growth and cell reproduction of plants, but it is Much more expensive than the equipment and equipment they use for it, our option is viable and economical for the farmer.

Business Case

Our business model is to train farmers so that they can put into practice and increase their production, from making a laminar flow chamber through boxes, to the elaboration of culture media and the establishment of crop explants. want to propagate or conserve.

Objectives:

  1. Develop and apply biotechnological tools for the micropropagation using artisanal culture media accessible to small and medium farmers.
  2. Develop strategies that allow farmers to become familiar with the in vitro plant tissue culture processes.
  3. Development of techniques for the realization of micro propagation of different crops of commercial interest.

Our Background

Our team consists of five students of the engineering career in agro-biotechnology, we want to provide biotechnological strategies easy to apply, as is the case of tissue culture in vitro, using artisanal culture media, made with low-cost materials to reach of small and medium farmers. We believe that in vitro cultivation is a viable option that allows obtaining a greater number of plants in a reduced space and allows greater protection against pests and diseases.
