Mana Health Care Honey Incubation

Health foods for tomorrows people

ZimHoney is an incubation for smallholder farmers producing honey for livelihoods, incomes ,nutrition and food security

Use Case

Mr. Dembo is a traditional smallholder farm owner who used to practice slash and burn method when growing cereal crops for family livelihoods and nutrition. He reflects on the days when his ancestors depended on fruits in the farmland but all trees have been cut down and destroyed by veld fires as they cleared their cereal crop residues. Ever since he joined the Zimhoney Incubation and received training and resources to start bee farming business, his incomes and nutrition has increased. He now has a reason to conserve forests for family food and nutrition security

Potential

In this era of sustainable natural resources management and climate change resilience, Beekeeping Business is the talk of the show. Zimbabwe is rich with natural forests hence a huge opportunity to create beekeeping enterprises for the unemployed rural youths, women and smallholder farmers across all the marginalized communities in Africa. Wherever there are forests, beekeeping is the best business ever. Through our network of beekeeping communities across Zimbabwe’s farms and rural areas, we will soon be making our exports to the EU, United States, Malaysia and we have already created contacts in various continents. Currently, we are focusing on strengthening the capacities of our bee farmers to meet quality and quantity standards needed by the international export markets.

Business Case

Zimhoney is a social enterprise model which involve active participation of community of 1000 smallholder household members to produce honey and other agro produce and supply into the Zimhoney Value Chains for processing, packaging and distribution. The incubation has already registered 500 members of community in Eastern Highlands in Zimbabwe and the honey was tagged as natural organic which is high on demand in the global market. Our revenues are from membership fees subscriptions @ $5/year for each member. We also produce organic (Manna) honey @ $2/kg and sell @ $8/kg. We have attracted partners such as the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe, community farmers unions and other retail shops including OK Zimbabwe. We have social media handles to reach out to our customers.

Objectives:

  2. To create agro-value chains that is technology based and eradicate poverty and hunger in Zimbabwe through the agro-management systems
