Portions of reality

We collect, we aliment.

We aim to create a direct relationship between markets and those in need, in order to provide them with food instead of disposing it.

Use Case

Through our app, a person can register and set themselves as "giver" or "receiver". The ones that give are markets, supermarkets or stores that throw away fruits and vegetables in a daily basis because of aesthetic standards or some kind of filter. The ones that receive are community kitchens, foundations, or just individuals that would really appreciate this food. Then, the givers can publish in the app when they have available some food for us to collect it. We create a path in order to collect all the food and we set some delivery points in the calendar section for all the givers to know when and where they can receive the food.

Potential

Portions of reality is going to be a solution for food waste all around the globe, feeding millions of people in need, by distributing the food properly. Our app, will help people everywhere, and teach them that aesthetic should not be a decisive purchase factor. As our app is used, people get more conscious about how many people are being fed just by giving away the fruits and vegetables that otherwise they were going to throw away. In this way people will be aware about the benefits of helping others and reducing food waste, while feeding the needing population.

Business Case

We are working with the people, for the people. Fruits and vegetables are voluntarily donated by supermarkets and similar enterprises; we pick them up and transport them to the nearest organization in need. The products are given without any cost; working together benefits us all the most. Minimum costs are covered through people’s donations in our app. “Sharing is caring”

Objectives:

  1. Reduce waste: we collect fruits and vegetables that were unsuited for sell and redistribute them.
  2. Feed people: through events that are shown in our app, we give those individuals in need, fruits and vegetables.
  3. Create a direct relationship between markets that throw away food, and people in need, as community kitchens or foundations.

Our Team

Our Mission

Portions of Reality is the bridge between supermarkets, marketplaces, and community kitchens in Bogotá, Colombia. We create a direct relationship in order to provide quality food for those in need instead of disposing it. Establishments and organizations apply for either giving or receiving food in order to fulfill their needs. We offer food for everyone and global waste reduction by using all fruits and vegetables produced that otherwise had been thrown away.

Our Background

Our world is slowly falling apart. It hurts to see how because of an inefficient distribution of resources and wastes, many people are suffering and starving. Everyone matters. A viable solution is needed urgently. We heard about the challenge and we didn't think it twice; as future economists and designers we had to be part of it. "The only failure is not to try."
