Whole Surplus provides one-stop waste management platform for donating, re-selling, recycling and data analytics to reduce waste at source.

Use Case

We have been operating since 2017.We work with 10 sector leading FMCG companies such as Metro CC and Migros as well as 40 NGO’s in 11 cities of Turkey. Since 2017 we donated and resold 800 tons of food.We doubled our users’ donation amounts and reduced disposal costs by up to 70% and reduced their food related carbon emissions by 50%.Our customers are excited and willing to begin re-selling their products. Also, we increased shelf qualities from %89 to %94 since turnover of the products increased as products close to best-by-date are being donated. Moreover, NGO’s are very satisfied with the quality and range of donation products and they create new food bank, social market and pantry projects to increase their activity. Our platform is designed as a win-win platform.

Potential

Our value proposition is to provide a pioneering holistic platform to manage waste occurring in any level of the value chain with technology solutions. We provide a one-stop platform for companies to easily manage all their waste in the most efficient and financially beneficial way.We create our customers waste maps to understand their needs and come up with the most feasible solutions such as donation, recycling, composting, re-selling and animal feeding and so on.This way we are able to double our users’ donation amounts and reduce disposal costs by up to 70% also reducing their food related carbon emissions by 50%.Also, our vision is to reduce waste at the source with big data analysis and AI technologies with SKU, time and location based data to create the biggest impact on food waste.

Business Case

Our surplus management system is a SaaS. Therefore we charge monthly subscription fee per store/ warehouse and percentage commission for each transaction from food businesses such as retailers, producers and distributers. Our services are free for NGO's and food banks.

Objectives:

  1. To reduce our customers' food waste related carbon emission by %50.
  2. To get enough surplus data to be able to reduce waste at the source with big data analysis, thus creating the biggest impact on food waste.
