Reducing food insecurity by converting it into organic fertilizer through Vermi-composting & introducing organic market for hygienic food

Use Case

We are converting organic waste into organic fertilizer through Vermi-composting process. This fertilizer will be collected by the farmers from production points and they it will be used for crops production instead of chemical fertilizers that will increase food security, crop production and will produce hygienic crop product. This crop product will be sold into an organic market for healthy prices that will encourage the farmers to produce more and people will be able to buy chemical free fruits and vegetables.

Potential

In Pakistan, 73% of land is not cultivated just due to lack of required ingredients in the soil. In this, 27% of land is cultivated only in which farmer use abundant amount of chemical fertilizers in order to meet the demand of food. Our fertilizer has proper ratio of NPK that are required by the soil to produce healthy crops. According to our statistical impact, the farmer has to use 450 KG of fertilizer in 1 Acre that will cost him $90 which is 25% less as compared to the chemical fertilizer and this fertilizer has the potential to produce 15% more product than chemical fertilizer. It also has the characteristics of aiding infertile land with proper nutritious that land will start producing crop product efficiently in 2-3 years

Business Case

For 1 year, we are collecting 1080 tons of food waste Then we are converting it into organic fertilizer through vermi-composting process from which we will obtain 540 tons of food that is used in 1,200 acre land From this, we get the revenue of $102,600 and profit of $42,196 every year. Our break-even is achieved in first 6 months In 20 years, we are able reduce food insecurity by 75% and able to impact 59 mi hectare land of Pakistan Also, this will impact 27% of the patient that die due to use of chemicals in their food. Major impact will be on pollution and Global warming that will be reduced due to proper recycling of Nitrogen and other harmful gasses by nitrogen fixation in the fields.

Objectives:

  1. Controlling food wastage by converting it into organic fertilizer, that bypass the usage of chemical fertilizer in crop production
  2. Introducing an Organic Market for the first time in Pakistan where farmers are allowed to sale their products without lack of accountability
  3. Encouraging farmers to produce more by aiding infertile lands and making them fertility by the use of this fertilizer
