Proharv

Feeding the future

Proharv is an online crowdfunding platform that thrives to intermediate finance, from third parties to farming entrepreneurs.

Use Case

This platform is directed to three user profiles: farmers, investors, and donors. Farmers must present a business idea they are trying to engage, to initiate or boost their production. By means of a website, we will advise farmers and integrate projects within the same area (e.g.: neighboring farms). This will be an incentive to mass production, and a means to transform ideas into viable business. The investor will have a wide catalogue of projects to choose from, and by financing his favorite, he will receive returns from its profits. The donor, on the other hand, will be able to choose the recipient of his contribution.

Potential

In present days, one of the most significant barriers to agricultural development is the lack of finance sources for entrepreneur farmers. This is partly due to the many requirements and paperwork needed to ask for a loan. This is hampering the development of projects with huge productive potential, and forcing farmers to perform lower scale practices, that result in tender and limited productive results. Proharv arises to counter this issue; a platform capable to bind together investors all over the world, with farmers searching for monetary support for their business ideas. It will thereby incentive the proliferation of greater scale projects that will contribute to the alimentary sustenance of an ever-growing portion of population.

Business Case

We expect the platform to work with farmers and investors all around the globe; however, there will be a pilot program to begin with, which will take place in Colombia, where we already know farmer´s main issues and the way we can promote the platform. How to approach farmers? 9 out of 10 farmers in Colombia have smartphones; however, the most popular communication stream in rural areas is still television. Initially, we will broadcast a commercial in a national TV channel; which will gain us market positioning and motivating farmers to register in the website (and teaching them how to). How to approach investors? Investors, can be approached easily by internet advertisement; by which they will be shown the platform as one of the best ways to invest in that type of endeavors

Objectives:

  1. Create a solution that allows the sustenance of agricultural projects and incentive their initiative.
  2. Impulse sustainable agricultural production at greater scales by means of counseling and training towards entrepreneurs.
  3. Generate a quicker and more efficient finance alternative to projects in early development stages by means of a crowdfunding model.
