Storimarket

Taste good. Does good.

Buy direct from African smallholders and producers and get the ethical and sustainable story behind your food

Use Case

For smallholder farmers and ethical producers in Africa, Storimarket provides a logistics and marketing solution to link them directly to customers who value their efforts to protect the environment, build their community and grow their business. For the socially conscious consumer, Storimarket offers them a way to buy direct from producers who share values and attitudes.

Potential

Food is the world's biggest retail market. However, its commoditisation means many farmers who grow the food, particularly smallholders, are living in poverty. At the same time, a growing number of consumers are demanding more information about how, and by whom, their food is made. Storimarket aims to provide over 33m smallholder farmers, making up some 90% of all farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, a route to market which allows them produce in way which protects the environment, builds their community and grows their business.

Business Case

Storimarket is a platform business: an online marketplace for consumers and producers to trade. Through the platform, Storimarket provides logistical and marketing support to enable producers to communicate with, and sell to, consumers. Storimarket charges for these services as well as taking a commission on sales. In addition, Storimarket is exploring business-to-business partnerships.

Objectives:

  1. Increase value-add food export from Africa and other developing regions
  2. Reconnect consumers with their food and the producers of it
  3. Create a sustainable way to improve the lives of smallholder farmers through trade
