TripodOnline

Creating a trend to impact change.

An online platform that connects people looking rent their land with people looking to invest in short-term agricultural startups on it.

Use Case

There are two key users of this platform, landowners who list and rent out their idle land, and entrepreneurs who invest in this land. Innovators can search the database of properties at any time, but need to create an TripodOnline profile to book any reservations on listed land. One key aspect when creating the profile is a description of how they will utilize the land. Once both are in agreement, a fixed amount will be paid at a set interval with a percentage of the profits earned being given to the landowner. We have also added an additional feature which provides suppliers of farm inputs and equipment with an eCommerce platform to sell their items hence negating the need to outsource ones suppliers.

Potential

We believe that the concept helps create trend, and trends are what are influencing decisions made in the 21st Century. By making it fashionable to invest in agricultural startups, more young people will be inclined to enter the agricultural sector and will unknowingly solve the problem of food insecurity. Whereas before one was required to buy land and go through the stringent measures to acquire it, now on can easily select the land of their choice and invest in small scale ventures that will ultimately result in a ripple effect of change in the agribusiness sector.

Business Case

TripodOnline is a community-based, online platform that facilitates the process of leasing land to innovators. On the one side it enables owners to list their space and earn rental money. On the other side it provides innovators easy access to renting land for their startups. TripodOnline receives commissions from two sources upon every booking, namely from the landowners and innovators. Land owners pay a commission upon every booking of their land while innovators pay a certain percentage off what they are charged by the landownner.

Objectives:

  1. To create a trend for entrepreneurs to invest in agricultural startups therefore increasing food production helping to solve food insecurity
  2. To provide landowners with an economic alternative to put their idle land under good use while also earning from the investments.
  3. To provide employment opportunities to young people therefore increasing their living standards while reducing the unemployment rate.

Our Mission

We want to help connect landowners to rent/lease their land to the unemployed youth who have innovative ideas to utilize this land. Our Background

We are a team of three young people studying various IT courses in the best university in Kenya, Strathmore University. We were inspired to participate in this challenge due to the current affairs in the country but above all, due to our deep rooted passion to want to make a difference no matter how small. And we believe the Thought For Food Challenge is a great place to help transform our idea into a functional system.
